General Motors will move its stock listing from the New York Stock Exchange to Nasdaq next month, according to Fox Business. The Detroit automaker says the switch reflects its growing focus on technology. Its shares are set to start trading on the Nasdaq Global Select Market on November 17th under the same "GM" ticker, and they'll stay on the NYSE through the close of trading on November 16th.

Chief Financial Officer Paul Jacobson said GM's "customer-focused, technology-driven strategy" makes Nasdaq "a natural home" for the stock, and he thanked the NYSE for the long partnership. The company behind Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac has been putting more weight on advanced vehicle tech as part of its long-term growth plan. That includes investments in safer, smarter and more efficient vehicles and a wider lineup of electric models, which it showcased at its annual technology event in New York last week.

The move could also make GM eligible for the Nasdaq-100, the index of the exchange's 100 largest non-financial companies, though a spot isn't guaranteed. Shareholders don't need to do anything because of the transfer, and GM said it isn't making any changes to its business operations alongside the listing change.
