Conservative broadcaster Tucker Carlson warned on X on Sunday that President Trump may launch a nuclear strike on Iran this week, under pressure from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to Firstpost. Carlson, once a Trump ally and now a critic, claimed that Netanyahu has been pushing to restart the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran. He said the likely target is Pickaxe Mountain, an underground site near Natanz. Carlson argued that after last week's Israeli election results, Netanyahu believes his political survival, and his ability to form a government, depends on Trump stepping in.
Carlson claimed that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Central Command chief Adm. Brad Cooper are lobbying for Netanyahu's position and that Secretary of State Marco Rubio also supports a nuclear option. "No conventional weapon in the American arsenal can penetrate 300 feet of solid granite," Carlson wrote, adding that, according to an unnamed source, "Bibi calls Trump about it every day." None of these claims have been independently confirmed. The U.S. has already struck Iranian nuclear sites at Natanz, Fordow and Isfahan, but not Pickaxe Mountain. Analysts say that site sits under at least 100 meters of rock, deeper than Fordow.
Trump has publicly ruled out using nuclear weapons. "I wouldn't use nuclear. We don't have to. We're the greatest nuclear power in the world," he said earlier this month, and he has floated the massive "Mother of All Bombs" instead. Underground warfare specialist Daphne Richemond-Barak told Firstpost that conventional bunker-busters could still reach the site by "hammering the nail." That means dropping several, or even dozens, of roughly 14-ton bombs almost directly on top of each other in rapid succession, the same method Israel used to kill Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut in 2024.
